Guptill and Wessels power Worcestershire to crushing win over Durham

A stunning 148-run opening partnership steered Rapids to victory while Alex Carey starred on his Sussex debut.

Openers Martin Guptill and Riki Wessels fired Worcestershire to a stunning nine-wicket win over Durham in the Vitality Blast.

Guptill and Wessels made short work of a 182-run target at New Road as they raced their way to half-centuries off just 18 and 20 balls respectively.

The pair hit 15 sixes between them in total and combined for a 148-run stand from 53 balls, before Wessels was caught at mid-off having scored a 29-ball 74.

New Zealand batsman Guptill remained unbeaten on 86, having faced just 31 deliveries, as Worcestershire reached their target with almost eight overs to spare.

The defending champions are now second in the North Group, behind Lancashire after their trip to Derbyshire was abandoned due to rain.

Alex Carey had a debut to remember for Sussex with a brilliant 78 to set up a 13-run victory over Somerset at Taunton.

The Australian hit seven fours and four sixes from 46 deliveries, while Laurie Evans (33) and David Wiese (26) offered good support in a score of 184 for eight.

Somerset's reply got off to a strong start with an opening stand of 96 in less than 12 overs between Babar Azam (83) and Tom Banton (51). However, the hosts could only muster 171 for five.

Rain prevented any play between Northamptonshire and Yorkshire at Wantage Road.
