Chennai Super Kings maintain 100% record with win in Mumbai

Chennai Super Kings chase down 189 with 20 balls to spare against winless Mumbai Indians to continue their 100% start to this year's IPL.

Chennai Super Kings chased down 184 with 20 balls to spare against Mumbai Indians to continue their 100% start to this year's Indian Premier League.

A 109-run opening partnership between Brendon McCullum (46) and Dwayne Smith (62) put Chennai ahead of the rate and Suresh Raina (43 not out) helped see them home.

Mumbai chose to bat first and were soon 12-3. Parthiv Patel (0) and Corey Anderson (4) fell to Ashish Nehra before Lendl Simmons, replacing the injured Aaron Finch at the top of the order, holed out for five.

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh was promoted up the order and blasted 24, but most of the rebuilding job was done by captain Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard, both of whom made half-centuries at good speed.

Pollard smashed five maximums in his 30-ball 64 and, after Rohit (50) became another victim for Nehra - the pick of the Super Kings bowlers with 3-23 - Ambati Rayudu (23) helped the West Indian take Mumabi to 183-7.

This healthy total was quickly made less formidable by virtue of some destructive hitting from Smith and McCullum, who posted the second biggest power play total in IPL history with 90 off the first six overs.

Chennai had past three figures when McCullum's 20-ball cameo was ended by Harbhajan. Although Smith, Faf du Plessis (11) and MS Dhoni (3) followed, Dwayne Bravo (13*) stayed with Raina to secure his side a comfortable win.

Bravo hit the fourth ball of the 17th over for six to finish the job and inflict a fourth defeat in four games on Mumbai.
