Bangladesh have reached 153-3 at tea against South Africa on day two of the first Test in Chittagong to trail the tourists by 95 runs.
The hosts went into the afternoon session on 80-2, having lost openers Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque early in the day.
Bangladesh were looking to rebuild with Mahmudullah and Tamim Iqbal at the crease, and the pair kept the Proteas bowling attack quiet after lunch.
Iqbal brought up his 50 off 119 balls when he pushed Simon Harmer's delivery through on off for a single, while at the other end Mahmudullah scored at a slightly quicker rate.
South Africa ended the partnership shortly before tea when Iqbal was clean bowled by Dean Elgar for 57. Mahmudullah notched his 50, though, when he flicked a Dale Steyn ball away for a boundary.
Bangladesh will resume the evening session with Mahmudullah (53*) and Mushfiquir Rahim (5*) in the middle.
