India start Asia Cup campaign with win

India get their Asia Cup campaign off to a successful start with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh in Fatullah.

India have got their Asia Cup campaign off to a winning start thanks to a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Fatullah.

Bangladesh were put into bat first and made 279-7 before the Indians reached their target with a score of 280-4 from 49 overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim hit 117 from 113 balls for Bangladesh, while Anamul Haque (77) also impressed at the crease. However, Mominul Haque (23) was the only other batsman to get past 20 runs.

Mohammed Shami took four wickets for India, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Varun Aaron and Ravichandran Ashwin claiming the remaining three wickets.

Openers Rohit Sharma (21) and Shikhar Dhawan (28) did little to push India's run-chase along, but it was Virat Kohli's mammoth knock of 136 that propelled them closer to victory.

Kohli's heroics out in the middle allowed Ajinkya Rahane (73), Ambati Rayudu (9) and Dinesh Karthik (2) to seal the win for the Indians.
