Afghanistan chase down 268 against Bangladesh on World Cup debut

Afghanistan make an impressive start to their maiden Cricket World Cup campaign by restricting Bangladesh to 267-10 in this morning's Pool A meeting.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan each scored half-centuries to help lift Bangladesh to 267-10 in their meeting with Cricket World Cup debutants Afghanistan this morning.

The rookies did well to restrict their opponents to 119-4 at the 30th over, although Rahim (71) and Al Hasan (63) combined to help subdue the attack in the Pool A clash.

Afghanistan did manage to take the final six wickets for 34 runs, however, dismissing Bangladesh with the final ball of the innings at Canberra's Manuka Oval.

Soumya Sarkar (28) and Anamul Haque (29) were the next top hitters for the Tigers as they found themselves on the end of some tight bowling.

Afghanistan, made up mainly of players who learned the sport in refugee camps, came out on top in the only previous meeting between these two sides.
