Steve Smith has been recognised for his impressive year by winning the three main awards at Cricket Australia's ceremony in Sydney.

The 25-year-old, who recently became the team's stand-in captain in the absence of Michael Clarke, collected the Test and One-Day Player of the Year awards and was given the prestigious Allan Border Medal.

Smith won the AB Medal, which is voted for by players, umpires and media representatives, with 243 votes ahead of David Warner and Mitchell Johnson, who had 175 and 126 votes respectively.

A stellar 2014 finished with Smith hitting centuries in all four Tests against India, who were powerless to prevent him scoring 769 runs in a record-breaking series.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell was named the Twenty20 Player of the Year - the only senior award not to be won by Smith.

Meg Lanning claimed the Belinda Clark award for Women's Cricketer of the Year, while Sean Abbott was named Young Player of the Year.
