Glenn Maxwell eyeing Australian Test place

Glenn Maxwell hopes that good form in English county cricket will earn him a recall to Australia's Test team.

Glenn Maxwell is hoping that a stint in English county cricket will help earn him a recall to the Australian Test team.

The all-rounder scored 324 runs as the Aussies won the 50-over World Cup last month, but the 26-year-old was omitted from the Test squad to face the West Indies and the touring party for this summer's Ashes series in England.

However, Maxwell, who will feature for Yorkshire in the 2015 season, believes that time in the English domestic game will help his push for a Test recall.

He told Cricket Australia's official website: "I was hoping my performances against international attacks would hold me in good stead. I thought I played quite well in the World Cup and a couple of games before that.

"I felt like I was in a good headspace in as far as international cricket goes. I knew I hadn't played a whole lot of red ball [Test] cricket, so I was hoping the fact that I'd been playing international cricket for Australia and that was the reason I was missing Shield cricket would hold me in good stead.

"But obviously not, and I've just got to keep finding a way to try and play some red ball cricket."

Australia begin their defence of The Ashes in Cardiff on July 8.
