Russian boxer Gasan Gimbatov makes "full recovery" after hospitalisation

Gasan Gimbatov has made a "full recovery" from the blow suffered against Joe Joyce in Friday's super-heavyweight bout, according to Baku 2015 chief Simon Clegg.

Chief operating officer of Baku 2015 Simon Clegg has revealed that Gasan Gimbatov has "made a full recovery" following a heavy blow to the face in Friday's defeat to Joe Joyce.

The Russian boxer was unable to collect his silver medal at the Crystal Hall ceremony after being sent for precautionary tests at a nearby hospital.

Medical manager at the venue Gunay Ibrahimov announced at the time that Gimbatov required "examination by a neurologist for possible head trauma and concussion".

Clegg has now provided further news, telling reporters: "I am not in a position to make a specific update, but from an informal discussion I had this morning, my understanding is that he has made a full recovery."

Joyce claimed a unanimous points victory over Gimbatov to take super-heavyweight gold for Great Britain.
