Amir Khan produces masterclass to beat Devon Alexander

British welterweight Amir Khan puts himself in line for a lucrative fight in 2015 by defeating Devon Alexander by unanimous decision in Las Vegas.

British welterweight Amir Khan produced one of the best performances of his career to beat Devon Alexander by unanimous decision in Las Vegas.

The 28-year-old was expected to face a tough examination against the American, but he bettered his opponent in every department to successfully defend his WBC silver title.

From the opening bell, Khan established a rhythm with his work, frequently beating Alexander to the punch and exciting the MGM Grand crowd with his blistering combinations.

By the end of round six, Alexander looked frustrated after being outclassed by the Bolton fighter, and, despite enjoying an improved eighth, he never looked likely to change the momentum of the contest.

The three judges scored the fight 119-109, 118-110 and 120-108 all in favour of Khan, who now becomes a leading contender to face Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao in May next year.
