Paddy Barnes seals another Northern Irish medal

Paddy Barnes becomes the seventh Northern Irish participant to secure a medal at the Commonwealth Games by beating Charles Keama to a place in the semis.

Boxer Paddy Barnes has guaranteed Northern Ireland another Commonwealth Games medal after beating Papua New Guinea's Charles Keama in today's -49kg quarter-final.

The 27-year-old, who is widely tipped for the gold, sealed his semi-final place by producing a second-round technical knockout to assure himself and his nation at least a bronze.

Barnes, who won gold in Delhi four years ago, sealed his place in the quarters courtesy of another TKO win, beating Hamadi Omari Furahisha of Tanzania in round two earlier this week.

The fighter becomes the eighth Northern Irish participant in Glasgow to seal a medal, with Michael Conlan, Michaela Walsh, Alanna Audley-Murphy, Joe Fitzpatrick, Sean Duffy and Sean McGlinchy all securing a semi-final place.
