Paddy Barnes defends light-flyweight title at Commonwealth Games

Northern Ireland's Paddy Barnes successfully defends his light-flyweight title at the Commonwealth Games thanks to a win over Devendro Laishram.

Northern Ireland's Paddy Barnes has recorded his second successive victory in the light-flyweight division at the Commonwealth Games thanks to a comfortable win over Devendro Laishram.

Neither fighter took a step backwards in the opening round as they battled for control of the bout, with Barnes landing the cleaner blows early on before Laishram fought back impressively in an unsuccessful bid to take the round away from his rival.

Barnes continued to box smartly as Laishram opened himself up to be caught due to a few wild swings at the Northern Irishman.

After winning the first two rounds, the Northern Irish boxing skipper was able to wait to take advantage of errors from his rival, who was showing signs of tiring in the latter stages of the fight.

All of the judges awarded the bout to Barnes following yet more success for the 27-year-old as Laishram's bid for glory faded late on.
