Ruairi Dalton criticises headguard rule change

Northern Ireland boxer Ruairi Dalton is opposed to the omission of headguards at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

Northern Ireland boxer Ruairi Dalton has said that he is opposed to the omission of headguards at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

A number of boxers, when asked by Sports Mole in Glasgow, have backed the change in rule.

However, Dalton, who beat Christopher Katanga in his opening bout of the competition on Friday, has claimed that the lack of headguards "is not good for boxers".

"You can see the positives, but it is not good for boxers, all it takes is a cut and you can have problems," he told Sports Mole.

The shock of the flyweight division on Friday saw the favourite Andrew Selby eliminated by home favourite Reece McFadden.
