Lamont Peterson 'did nothing wrong'

Lamont Peterson's publicist Andre Johnson insists that the American boxer is not a drugs cheat and will fight to clear his name.

Lamont Peterson's publicist Andre Johnson has leaped to the defence of his fighter following the decision to call off next week's bout against Amir Khan.

The highly-anticipated re-match between the fighters was cancelled after the American professional failed a drugs test.

The former WBA and IBF light welterweight champion Khan branded Peterson a "cheat" after testing positive for synthetic testosterone in a random screening in March.

"Lamont did nothing wrong," Johnson told Sky Sports News. "He's not a doper. He's not a cheater. He's distraught.

"He wanted to clear his name and do what he was born to do - fight. Mark my words, Lamont Peterson is a man of tremendous character, he's a fighter. We will fight to get the truth."

Khan's camp are trying to grant the pair's previous fight as no contest after discovering that Peterson had taken testosterone injections before the British fighter's controversial defeat in November.
