Juan Manuel Marquez warns Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez against fighting Floyd Mayweather Jnr this early in his career.

Juan Manuel Marquez feels that Saul Alvarez should avoid fighting Floyd Mayweather Jnr at this point his career.

'Canelo' has been angling for a clash with the unbeaten Mayweather for some time, and pulled out of the card for Saturday's MGM Grand event that saw Mayweather meet Robert Guerrero after 'Money' refused to ink a deal for a September fight with him.

However, four-division champion Marquez thinks that such a clash is too early for his fellow Mexican anyway, and feels that he would be best served honing his craft before stepping to fight Mayweather.

"A fight against Mayweather would be very difficult for 'Canelo' Alvarez because of Mayweather's syle," BoxingScene quotes Marquez as saying.

"I think that he needs a few more fights against fighters similar to Floyd Mayweather before he is ready, but there aren't many fighters even close to Mayweather right now in boxing.

"It would be very tough for 'Canelo'."

Mayweather recorded a comfortable unanimous points decision over Guerrero.
