British welterweight Frankie Gavin has insisted that he could stop Amir Khan if a domestic showdown could be arranged at some point in 2014.
Khan is rumoured to be close to securing a lucrative bout with Floyd Mayweather, but Gavin has revealed that he would be keen to face the Bolton man if he came up short against the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
The 28-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I think that I'm at Khan's level now. No disrespect to him, because he's a great fighter, But he's on the decline. He's not the fighter that he was. We saw that in his last fight against Julio Diaz. I think that I could beat Khan now.
"Some people will say 'no chance', because of his speed. But I'm not a bad puncher myself and if I hit him on the chin, anything can happen with Khan.
"I'm also technically very good. His footwork is no better than mine and also he gets hit a lot more often than I do. It's a good fight on paper."
Gavin, who currently holds the Commonwealth title, is unbeaten in 17 professional encounters.
