Ricky Burns: 'I must earn world title shot'

British lightweight Ricky Burns reveals that he wants to earn another opportunity to fight for the world title before the end of 2014.

British lightweight Ricky Burns believes that there are some "huge fights" awaiting him if he can overcome Dejan Zlaticanin in Glasgow later this month.

Burns will be attempting to return to winning ways after losing the WBO title to Terence Crawford in March, and with his next bout just over two weeks away, the Scot has insisted that quality sparring sessions will have him prepared for his match with the Montenegro fighter.

The 31-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "I was sparring with Kevin Mitchell in the build-up to his fight with Ghlislain Maduma on the Froch vs. Groves bill and also with Martin J Ward who was a float on that card. I am also due to start some work with Luke Campbell, which is fantastic as he's an incredible talent.

"There are some huge fights out there for me. My last 10 fights have been for world titles and I am at home in the elite so I want to get back there as soon as possible.

"Zlaticanin is unbeaten and will have some ambitions of his own, but I want my next fight to be for a world title and I have to put on a great show to earn that."

Burns has 36 victories from 40 fights, while Zlaticanin is unbeaten in 18 professional encounters.
