Leroy Hindley "happy" with Commonwealth Games display

New Zealand boxer Leroy Hindley says that he will look back fondly on his display at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand boxer Leroy Hindley has said that he was "pretty happy" with his display at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

The light-welterweight, who had to gain funding from friends to even qualify for the competition, won a lot of supporters on his way to the quarter-finals in Glasgow.

However, Hindley's journey at the Games came to an end on Tuesday when he was defeated by Junias Jonas.

"I thought it was closer than a unanimous decision, I guess the better man won on the day, but I think it was definitely a lot closer," Hindley told Sports Mole after the bout.

"Yeah I am pretty happy with my performance overall. I can't really take anything away from him, he fought a good fight. I have to be happy with where I got to, it's massive."

Hindley's next steps are to prepare for the nationals in New Zealand.

"There are the nationals in New Zealand in October so it is back to training for me," he added.

Hindley's New Zealand teammate Chad Milnes was also beaten in the last-eight stage this evening.
