Cheavon Clarke beaten in Commonwealth Games semi-finals

England's Cheavon Clarke wins bronze in the men's 91kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games following defeat to New Zealand's David Nyika.

England's Cheavon Clarke has won bronze in the men's 91kg category at the Commonwealth Games following defeat in his semi-final against New Zealand's David Nyika.

Nyika was awarded the victory with a unanimous points decision as all five judges ruled that he had done enough to beat Clarke - albeit often by narrow margins.

All of the judges agreed that Clarke won the opening round, but the following two went the way of the New Zealander as he progressed into the gold-medal bout.

Nyika will next take on Australia's Jason Whateley in the final on Saturday, while Clarke is forced to settle for bronze having picked up silver in the European Championships last year.

Clarke also participated at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow four years ago, when he failed to medal while representing Jamaica.
