Andrew Maloney delighted with win

Australia boxer Andrew Maloney reveals his delight after advancing into the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games.

Australia boxer Andrew Maloney has revealed his delight after guaranteeing himself a medal at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

Flyweight Maloney overcame Northern Ireland's Ruairi Dalton on Tuesday to book his spot in the semi-finals of the competition.

"I had my eye set on a medal here for many, many years and I couldn't sleep last night just thinking about it. I am over the moon that I was able to get the win and I am guaranteed a medal now, so now I need to focus on making it gold," he told Sports Mole.

Maloney also insisted that he will thrive under the pressure of fighting home favourite Reece McFadden in the next round, before discussing the omission of headguards at this summer's Games.

"Yeah I love that. I fought a Kazakhstan boy in Kazakhstan and I had the whole crowd against me there. I didn't get the win there, but I am confident I can do that this time if I box to my best," he added.

"I like fighting without [a headguard], but when you have got like five fights in a row it can be hard. The boy I boxed just then had like three cuts so it can be brutal, but I haven't got a cut so I can't complain."

Maloney vs. McFadden will take place on Friday.
