England beat Scotland to reach Commonwealth Games semi-finals

Team England duo Chris Gregory and Jake Sheaf beat Scotland 2-0 in their beach volleyball quarter-final to progress into the last four at the Commonwealth Games.

Team England have beaten Scotland 2-0 in their beach volleyball quarter-final at the Commonwealth Games to seal their place in the last four of the competition.

The English pairing of Chris Gregory and Jake Sheaf continued their quest to be crowned the first ever men's beach volleyball gold medallists, with the sport making its debut at the Games on the Gold Coast.

England won the opening set 21-14 as Scotland's Seain Cook and Robin Miedzybrodzki struggled to hold their own against their neighbours, only winning consecutive points on two occasions throughout the opener.

Scotland put up a better fight in the second set, but England still emerged 21-17 victors to wrap up the best-of-three contest in just 38 minutes.

England must now wait to see which team they will face in the semi-finals - with New Zealand taking on Trinidad and Tobago and Australia hosting Sierra Leone later in the day.

Gregory and Sheaf's place in the last four does mean that they are guaranteed at least an appearance in the bronze-medal match.
