Scott Skiles hoping for Elfrid Payton improvements over the summer

Orlando Magic coach Scott Skiles suggests that he is still looking for improvements from youngster Elfrid Payton after his promising start to life in the NBA.

Orlando Magic coach Scott Skiles has insisted that youngster Elfrid Payton will continue to make improvements on his shooting over the summer period.

Payton enjoyed a promising rookie year at the Magic as he became the franchise's first player to post consecutive triple-doubles, but his coach has also stated that he wants to see more changes to the point guard's game.

"Yes. He's in here, he has made a commitment this summer to correct some technical issues with his shots – not get it behind his ear, get it out in front of him," Skiles told NBC Sports Radio.

"He's improved already. He knows how important it is. I mean the guy can get in the lane at will, imagine if he could consistently make an elbow jump shot off a pick-and-roll when they go under, and then eventually mix in a corner-three, which is a shot that guards need to make in the NBA.

"It's really going to open up his game. But he is really working at it, and he's got the ball out in front of him now."

Payton joined Orlando in a trade deal from the Philadelphia 76ers after he was drafted last year.
