New Orleans Pelicans release Rodney Carney

Rodney Carney is waived by the New Orleans Pelicans after failing to impress during their training camp.

Former first-round pick Rodney Carney has been waived by the New Orleans Pelicans less than a week after joining the team for their training camp.

Carney, who has appeared in over 200 NBA games, failed to impress during his short stint with the Pelicans and was left out of Saturday's pre-season victory over the Houston Rockets.

New Orleans head coach Monty Williams is keen to reduce his roster size, which now stands at 16, before the beginning of the season.

Carnery started his career with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2006 and went on to appear for four more teams in the NBA.
