James Harden claims NBA Players Association's MVP award

Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden wins the MVP accolade at the NBA Players Association's first Players' Awards.

Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden has been voted as the 2014-15 MVP as part of the NBA Players Association's first Players' Awards.

The new award is voted for by professional participants in the league instead of the sport's select media members, who recently chose Stephen Curry as the traditional MVP for last season.

"I want to thank God, thank my mom, my family and friends for all the support, the continuous support," Harden said after claiming the award.

"I want to thank BET for this beautiful event. To the NBA Players Association, [executive director] Michele Roberts for giving players a voice to speak their minds, and then just the players, the peers, I appreciate this vote. It means a lot and I'm really thankful for it."

Harden also came second to Curry in the routine MVP awards earlier this year.
