Cleveland Cavaliers re-sign guard JR Smith

The Cleveland Cavaliers re-sign guard JR Smith on a reported two-year deal.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have re-signed guard JR Smith, general manager David Griffin has announced.

No details of the contract were disclosed but according to ESPN, Smith signed a two-year deal that includes a player option for 2016-17 after opting out of his $6.4m (£4.19m) contract for the upcoming season.

The 29-year-old played in 46 games last season with Cleveland, averaging 12.7 points per game, and made the most three-pointers in the Western Conference since the Cavs acquired him in January 2015.

The shooting guard holds the NBA record for the most games with at least eight three-pointers with 13, and is currently 24th in the NBA's all-time three-pointers made list with 1,475.

Smith joined the Cavaliers from the New York Knicks in a three-team trade last season and helped them reach the NBA Finals for the second time in franchise history.
