Boston Celtics executive: 'Rajon Rondo trade request is news to me'

Boston Celtics president Rich Gotham plays down speculation suggesting that Rajon Rondo has asked for a trade away from the NBA franchise.

Boston Celtics president Rich Gotham has said that any talk of Rajon Rondo asking the franchise for a trade is news to him.

Rumours began to circulate earlier this week that the All-Star player had asked for a way out from the side, but Celtics executive Gotham has suggested that the team are focusing on helping Rondo get back to form.

"It was news to me. [A trade request] has not been communicated to us by Rajon," said Gotham, according to CSNNE.com.

"It's more of an issue for the media than it is for us. We have a good sense of reality in relation to Rajon and all of our players. We don't get caught up in the rumor mill or any of that stuff.

"What we focus on with Rajon is getting him ready to play. What we want to see is the Rajon rondo from 2011, 2012, back in his best form. That's what gets us excited. When we talk to Rondo, that's what we talk about. We're not talking about trades."

The next NBA season will commence on October 28, as the San Antonio Spurs open against the Dallas Mavericks.
