Cardinals beat Rangers in World Series final

St Louis Cardinals beat Washington Rangers 6-2 in the deciding game of the World Series final.

St Louis Cardinals won the decisive game of the World Series final as they beat Washington Rangers 6-2.

The first innings saw both sides take two runs apiece, but Cardinals gradually began to take control of the match.

The Cardinals went ahead with a single run in the third and added two more in the fifth.

They made sure of victory in the seventh with a further run and Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter ensured there was no way back for the Rangers.

"I was hoping to have an opportunity to go ahead and pitch in this game and fortunately it worked out," said Carpenter.

"It started off a little rough in the first. But I was able to collect myself, make some pitches and our guys did an awesome job to battle back."

The Series had come down to a seventh game after the Cardinals won an epic sixth game 10-9 last week.

It is the second year in a row that Rangers have lost in the World Series final as they also lost out to San Francisco Giants last year.
