Great Britain's medal hero David Weir has won his fourth gold medal of London 2012, with a sensational victory in the men's T54 marathon.

Weir carried out the most-part of the race in the leading pack, happy to sit just off the front-runners.

Japanese pair Masazumi Soejima and Kota Hokinoue made a move to the front of the pack in the final lap, but Weir stuck to the pace.

After 24 miles David Weir took the lead in a breakaway pack of three, including Kurt Furnley and Marcel Hug. The trio continued to stretch ahead of the field, setting up a tense final mile.

David Weir continued to dominate and came around the final bend in first place. Weir held off a late challenge from Kurt Furnely to finish in first with a time of 1:30:20.

Marcel Hug of Switzerland took silver, edging out Kurt Furnley who settled for bronze.

The gold medal adds to David Weir's medal haul from the T54 800m, 1500m and 500m track events.
