British sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey has said that he hopes to "find another gear" for the final of the 100m at the British Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
The 26-year-old, who has been ravaged by injury this year, managed to clock a time of 10.29s to win the fourth heat and book a place in tomorrow's semi-final at the Alexander Stadium.
"It is always a great crowd here," Aikines-Aryeetey told reporters. "Birmingham is the home of athletics in my opinion, they love the sport and they are always here to support us and we've got to be thankful for that.
"I've been injured all year and this is my first race and what a place to come to. I've got to be on my A-game this weekend and hope everyone is cheering me on.
"I've been nervous before this race. I knew I was capable of it after everything I've been working on in training but it's nice to know I can race that sort of time in the manner that I did, but obviously now I've got to find another gear. I know it is there."
Aikines-Aryeetey will contest for a spot in the final tomorrow afternoon.
