Jo Pavey finishes seventh in European 5000m race

Great Britain's Jo Pavey is unable to add to her European Championships 10,000m medal, finishing seventh in the women's 5000m race this afternoon.

Great Britain's Jo Pavey has finished seventh in the European Championships women's 5000m final.

The 40-year-old, who surprisingly won the women's 10,000m event four days ago, found herself out of contention of today's race with around 200m to go.

Netherlands runner Sifan Hassan and Sweden's Meraf Bahta found themselves shoulder to shoulder down the home straight. The the latter overtook her rival right at the death and crossed the line victor at the expense of the European 1500m champion, who finished second.

The podium was completed by Susan Kuijken, also of the Netherlands, who earned the bronze medal, while Briton Emelia Goreckha ended in ninth place.
