Natalia Rodriguez reverses retirement decision

Natalia Rodriguez reverses her decision to retire from athletics just a week after announcing that she was calling time on her career.

Spain's middle distance runner Natalia Rodriguez has gone back on her decision to retire from athletics.

The 2009 European Indoor champion over 1,500m announced last week that having appeared at four Olympic Games, it was the right time for her to step aside.

However, having had time to consider her decision, the 35-year-old has had a change of heart.

"After publicly announce my retirement, I have tried to spend a few quiet days, which has given me the opportunity to think freely and deeply consider my decision," she wrote on Twitter.

"Until, eventually, your body and your mind will tell you that you must continue to fight for and with possibilities of reaching the finals at the next Olympic Games in Rio, I'm going to continue in this wonderful sport."

Rodriguez's best performance at an Olympics came in Beijing back in 2008 when she finished sixth in the 1,500m.
