Netball captain Caroline O'Hanlon has been named as Northern Ireland's flagbearer for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

The 33-year-old - also a Gaelic footballer - is making her second appearance at the Commonwealths following Glasgow 2014 and is part of a 90-strong delegation from Northern Ireland competing across 13 different sports.

"It is a great honour to be named as TeamNI's flagbearer for the 2018 Commonwealth Games," O'Hanlon said. "I was shocked to be selected from what is a fantastic group of athletes here in Gold Coast.

"It is a real privilege and I look forward to leading the team into the Carrara Stadium for tomorrow evening's ceremony to join with some of the world's leading athletes in a celebration of sport.

"The next couple of weeks will see some great competition and I look forward to a successful Games for TeamNI."

The opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealths gets underway at 11am UK time (8pm local) on Wednesday.
