British champion Robbie Grabarz "happy to be out there"

Robbie Grabarz tells Sports Mole that he is "happy" to be back competing following a lengthy injury layoff.

Robbie Grabarz has told Sports Mole that he was just "happy" to be back competing, despite the fact that he won gold in the high jump at the British Championships this afternoon.

The Olympic bronze medallist from London 2012 has struggled with a knee injury, which eventually forced him to undergo surgery, for the last two years.

His season-best leap of 2.28m was enough to win today's event at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham by an eight-centimeter margin, but the 27-year-old has insisted that being able to compete at full fitness is the biggest achievement that he will take from the event.

"It's great [to be back]. I spoke to Steve Backley (former British javelin thrower) about it and he said coming back from injury is better than doing it in the first place - he's so right," he said.

"When you're doing it right, you feel like you deserve it even more this time around. I'm happy to be out there. You'll see me carry that through for the rest of the season."

Grabarz's personal best jump currently stands at 2.37m.
