Darren Campbell urges kids against athletics career

Former sprinter Darren Campbell says that he doesn't want his kids to take up athletics, as constant doping allegations have caused him to lose faith in the sport.

Olympic gold medallist Darren Campbell has revealed that he does not want any of his children to take up a career in athletics.

The 41-year-old was part of the British team that won the 4x100m relay in Athens, but he says that a number of doping allegations have caused him to lose his belief in the sport.

"I wouldn't encourage my kids to do athletics," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "Every time there's an allegation of systematic doping, it is very difficult to keep believing in the sport.

"At that highest level, do we believe that the athletes are doing what they are doing clean. It takes me back to the rumours that I heard when I was 17 or 18, that certain athletes were protected."

In addition to Campbell's Olympic gold, he won silver in the 200m at the Sydney games and claimed four medals at the European Championships.
