New Zealand athlete Valerie Adams has finally been given her Olympic gold medal in the women's shot put event following the disqualification of Nadzeya Ostapchuk.

The Belarusian was stripped of the top honour at London 2012 after she failed a drugs test, which showed that she had banned steroid metenolone in her system.

Adams was handed the gold medal by New Zealand governor general Sir Jerry Mateparae at a ceremony in Auckland a month after the Olympic event.

Adams initially secured silver with a distance of 20.70m.
