Osagie finished third in his heat, only to be ousted by the officials for "jostling or obstructing" a late burst from Joe Thomas of Wales as he approached the line.

There will be English representation in the final, with Michael Rimmer through having held off two rivals to finish second to Olympic and world champion Rudisha in the opening heat at Hampden Park.

Kenya's Rudisha clocked a time of 1:46.90, which is almost six seconds slower than his personal best, in a semi-final from which Scotland's Guy Learmonth progresses to the medal race as a fastest loser.

Mukhtar Mohammed was overtaken in the final stages of his race to finish outside of the top three automatic qualifying places, but was also quick enough to go through as one of the fastest losers.

Osage will launch an appeal against his disqualification.
