Robert Harting of Germany wins the Olympic discus title by throwing 68.27m, 9cm clear of his nearest rival.

Germany's Robert Harting has won the men's discus gold medal by throwing 68.27m this evening.

The 27-year-old's penultimate fifth throw ended up being 9cm further than silver medallist Ehsan Hadadi's first attempt.

The Iran thrower pipped Gerd Kanter of Estonia, who threw a season's best of 68.03, to second.

Great Britain's Lawrence Okoye was hoping to medal at his home Games but was eliminated at the first stage of the final.
