Robbie Grabarz flops in Commonwealths high jump

Team England's Robbie Grabarz finishes one from last in the high jump event at the Commonwealth Games.

Team England's Robbie Grabarz has finished one from last in the high jump event at the Commonwealth Games.

The 30-year-old was one of the hot favourites going into the competition, having set a new PB of 2.37m during qualifying, and progressed past the starting height of 2.18m with his second attempt.

The next height of 2.21m proved surprisingly insurmountable for the Olympic bronze medallist, however, and he crashed out with a third failed attempt.

Gold went the way of Australia's Brandon Starc, who jumped a new PB of 2.32m, while the Bahamas' Jamal Wilson took silver, having unsuccessfully tried for 2.34m.

Canada's Django Lovett jumped a PB of 2.30m for bronze ahead of another Bahamas competitor, Donald Thomas, on 2.27m.

Team England had one other athlete in the event, 27-year-old Chris Baker, who came ninth with a best jump of 2.21m.
