Shelly Wood "gutted" with Commonwealth Games finish

Team England's Shelly Woods admits that she was "gutted" to finish sixth in the women's Para-sport 1,500m T54 at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday.

Team England's Shelly Woods has admitted her disappointment after finishing sixth in the women's Para-sport 1,500m T54 at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday.

Woods revealed that she 'struggled with grip' on what was a wet surface, but she has vowed to work on her performance ahead of the European Championships.

"I kind of knew when I came out that this wasn't going to be great. I just really struggle with grip, I get no power at all which is a shame, because I felt like I was in really good shape. So a bit gutted, but I just can't control the weather," she told reporters.

"You just have to work with our technology to find some material that you can put on your gloves to get the grip, really. Basically it turns into a race of who can get the best grip and finish.

"There's a lot more races to come but you just don't want it to happen at major champs like this. The only person who can work on it is yourself. Everyone's technique is different."

Woods finished with a time of 4:06.26.
