Silver medallist Laura Samuel aims 'to go further'

England triple-jumper Laura Samuel suggests that she is aiming for gold at the 2016 Olympics after picking up silver at the Commonwealth Games.

England's triple jump silver medallist Laura Samuel has suggested that she is aiming for a top-of-the-podium finish at the Rio Olympics.

Samuel made her Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow with a personal best jump of 14.09m to finish second to Jamaica's Kimberly Williams tonight and, speaking to Sports Mole afterwards, she revealed that she now hopes to go further in two years' time.

"It's two years to go to Rio [and] I've got a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, so it's going to give me loads of confidence going into the future," she said.

The 23-year-old, who improved her best jump by 34cm to pass the 14m barrier after two years of trying, added: "I feel in good shape. I've got no niggles or anything like that so maybe by the end of the year I might be able to get a bit further [than that]."

Samuel has previously picked up silver at the World Junior Championships.
