San Francisco 49ers hammer Washington Redskins

The San Francisco 49ers ease to a 27-6 victory over the Washington Redskins away from home in the NFL.

The San Francisco 49ers have registered a 27-6 victory over the Washington Redskins in their NFL clash at FedEx Field.

Jim Harbaugh's visiting side surged ahead towards the end of the first quarter when Anquan Boldin and Colin Kaepernick combined with a deep out route and the receiver did just enough to get into the endzone, beating Josh Wilson in coverage for a 19-yard strike.

The 49ers added three more points at the start of the second quarter when Phil Dawson fired his kick through the posts from 29 yards for a field goal after Kaepernick had been taken down by Brandon Meriweather.

However, the Redskins refused to be blown away and staged a comeback thereafter, with Kai Forbath scoring a field goal with a kick from 36 yards.

The hosts finished the first half on a stronger note as they added three more points to their tally right on the stroke of half time, Forbath again with a field goal with a 35-yarder.

However, the 49ers reasserted themselves after the interval and extended their lead in the third quarter.

Kaepernick kept the play alive and scrambled to his right before passing the ball to Boldin for the second touchdown of the game.

The 26-year-old quarterback was involved in the 49ers' third touchdown as well, throwing the ball to an uncovered Vernon Davis in the end zone for a one-yard score with 1:05 of the third quarter remaining.

The visitors continued to dominate proceedings in the fourth and final quarter of the contest, with Dawson dispatching his kick from 49 yards for a field goal with nine minutes left to wrap up the scoring.

The result means that the 49ers are now 7-4 in the NFC West, while the Redskins are struggling with a 3-8 record in the NFC East.
