Tennessee Titans confirm Ken Whisenhunt as head coach

The Tennessee Titans announce that San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt has become their new head coach.

The Tennessee Titans have confirmed that Ken Whisenhunt has become their new head coach.

Reports earlier on Monday suggested that the San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator had agreed to replace the fired Mike Munchak at the club after being interviewed for the post last week.

The Titans confirmed the deal to bring Whisenhunt to the club after successful negotiations with chief executive Tommy Smith and general manager Ruston Webster.

Smith told the club's official website: "This is a big day for this franchise.

"Ken is a well-respected coach in this league and I am looking forward to seeing his vision become reality for this team. He has a history of building successful offenses and took Arizona to a Super Bowl as a head coach.

"We all share a common goal for this team and that is to build a consistent winner. I want to thank Ruston for his hard work in the process and the quality candidates that he brought in for interviews."

Whisenhunt was head coach of the Arizona Cardinals for six seasons and led them to the Super Bowl in the 2008 campaign.
