Doug Martin wants to shed 'Muscle Hamster' nickname

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin says that he is aiming to play well enough in 2015 to lose his 'Muscle Hamster' nickname.

Doug Martin has said that he wants to play well enough in the 2015 NFL season to earn himself a new nickname.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back has been known as the 'Muscle Hamster' since his first year in the league.

The 26-year-old told USA Today: "The name 'Muscle Hamster' is the worst nickname possibly ever given to somebody. I hope it changes, and I hope that I play to a level where my nickname changes. That's what my goals are.

"2012 was a great year and I've had injuries and it's been a roller coaster through my career. But I have a new start. I feel great. I'm having fun out here, and I know this year's going to be pretty good."

Martin recorded 1,454 rushing yards in his first year in the NFL, but has yet to pass the 500 mark in the two seasons since.
