Seattle Seahawks cautious with Russell Wilson talks

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider calls for caution with regards to Russell Wilson's new contract.

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider has revealed that the organisation will be cautious when it comes to offering quarterback Russell Wilson a new contract.

Schneider insisted that the Seahawks must be mindful of the salary cap, but still hopes to come to an agreement with their starting signal-caller.

"Every negotiation is unique in and of itself and this is no different," Schneider told KIRO 97.3FM Radio.

"He's our quarterback. We'd love him to be our quarterback. But the thing is we need to keep as many of these guys together as we possibly can. What I can tell you is that this is the ultimate team sport. We have a track record of rewarding our players that we recognise as core players."

Wilson is entering the fourth year of his NFL career after guiding the Seahawks to back-to-back appearances at the Super Bowl, winning the first but losing last year to the New England Patriots.
