Red Bryant, Sidney Rice released by Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks confirm that they have released defensive lineman Red Bryant and wide receiver Sidney Rice from their roster.

The Seattle Seahawks have announced that they have released defensive lineman Red Bryant and wide receiver Sidney Rice.

Bryant was an integral part of his side's push to the Super Bowl in their victory over the Denver Broncos, while Rice played in just eight games of the season after sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

However, due to their high salaries both have been cut by the team ahead of free agency.

General manager John Schneider told the club's official website: "We want to thank both Red and Sidney for their effort, commitment and contribution to the Seattle Seahawks over the last few years.

"These are extremely tough decisions, but we wanted to give them a head start on free agency. We wish them well in the future."

Bryant had been with the Seahawks for six seasons, while Rice had been with the club since 2011.
