Joe Staley agrees to two-year contract extension at San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers look to secure the future of their defensive line as they hand left tackle Joe Staley a two-year contract extension.

San Francisco 49ers left tackle Joe Staley has signed a contract extension with the team, which takes the player through to the NFL's 2019 season.

The move will come as a slight surprise to NFL fans, given that Staley already had a deal running through until 2017. However, the 49ers have sought to show their faith with a further two years for the player.

The team is yet to announce news on the current situation of Alex Boone, who may pull out of his side's training camp should he not be offered a longer-term deal at San Fran.

The new NFL season gets underway in September.
