Jim Harbaugh says that he is "encouraged" by the progress of Michael Crabtree in the lead up to a game with the New Orleans Saints this weekend.

San Francisco 49ers wideout Michael Crabtree could return to the side for the weekend clash with the New Orleans Saints.

Crabtree has been out with a torn Achilles all season, but is reportedly on the verge of making his comeback.

The release of Kyle Williams earlier week this added to the speculation that Crabtree's return was imminent.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh told CSNBayArea.com: "We'll see with Michael. I'm not going to make any predictions today on who will fill [Williams's roster spot], but we've been encouraged with his progress and there's other options as well."

Harbaugh's men sit in second spot in the NFC West, with serious hopes of making the playoffs.
