Former Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith signs for Oakland Raiders

The MVP of Super Bowl XLVIII, Malcolm Smith, opts to sign for the Oakland Raiders after being allowed to leave the Seattle Seahawks at the end of the 2014 season.

Super Bowl XLVIII MVP Malcolm Smith has joined the Oakland Raiders after not being re-signed by the Seattle Seahawks.

The 25-year-old won the MVP award in Seattle's triumph over the Denver Broncos in the 2013 season as he intercepted a pass from Peyton Manning and ran the ball back for a touchdown, as well as recovering a fumble later in the match.

However, Smith struggled for playing time in the 2014 campaign as he was ousted from his spot in the Seahawks' defense by Bruce Irvin, which has resulted in his exit from the club.

Oakland moved to sign the linebacker to a long-term deal to boost their quality at the position after releasing Nick Roach last week.

Smith recorded 130 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions in his four years with Pete Carroll's men.
