Maurice Jones-Drew considered retirement

Oakland Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew admits that he was close to retiring from the NFL after struggling for form in the 2013 season.

Oakland Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew has admitted that he was considering retiring from the NFL before joining Dennis Allen's side.

The 29-year-old struggled for form in the 2013 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars as he averaged just 3.4 yards per carry after returning from an injury-plagued 2012 campaign.

"For awhile, I was contemplating retirement because I just didn't feel like I had it anymore," Jones-Drew told the Los Angeles Times.

"But that wasn't the case. My trainer helped me get back in shape and gain that foundation that I'd lost with the surgery."

Jones-Drew has ran for 8,071 yards and 68 touchdowns in his eight seasons in the NFL.
