New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees becomes all-time leading passer in the NFL

Brees surpassed the record held by Peyton Manning.

Drew Brees wrote himself into the record books, becoming the all-time leading passer in the NFL in a dominant 43-19 win for the New Orleans Saints over the Washington Redskins.

Brees only needed 27 minutes to get the 201 yards needed to eclipse the record of 71,940 held by Peyton Manning.

And the 39-year-old did it in style, connecting with Tre’Quan Smith for a 62-yard touchdown to put the Saints 26-6 up at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The game was briefly halted while the ball was handed to Pro Football Hall of Fame officials as the crowd gave the quarterback a standing ovation.

Manning was among those who congratulated Brees on the feat.

The Saints improved to 4-1 for the season with three TDs in the second and a pair in the third, Brees finishing with 363 yards on 26 out of 29 completions.

But all the post-game talk was about Brees’ new record.

Brett Favre, former Green Bay Packers quarterback, wrote on Twitter: “Congrats @drewbrees, proud to passed by a guy like you. All the best.”

And hall of famer Dan Marino wrote: “That was special @drewbrees and doing it with a touchdown! Congratulations.”
