The New York Jets have released Tim Tebow after just one season with the team.

The AFC East side had been looking to trade the quarterback, who spent much of last season as backup to Mark Sanchez.

The Jets have signed David Garrard and drafted Geno Smith to provide competition to Sanchez.

Tebow joined the Jets last year after two seasons with the Denver Broncos.
